nTrade is a forum for unusual films in international television

Therefore "n" stands for. Novel, Night, Newcomer, Noteworthy, Nonconformist.

In most countries, domestic content and programs from the USA dominate television, and European fictional works are usually shown primarily on their national broadcaster or at festivals. Television audiences in most countries have little familiarity with other film cultures from Europe. This is what nTrade hopes to change - especially for artistically ambitious films and films by newcomers. By highlighting this type of film in particular - films which, though excellent, do not fit the current market conditions - nTrade will set a political example.

nTrade 's long-term goal is to establish regular broadcasting slots for international programs of this kind in as many countries as possible - which would benefit directors, actors, producers, distributors and, above all, viewers. One way to do this is to build special nTrade program packages and help them travel to the European public broadcasters.

The first example of this was set up in March 2002. The nTradeImmigration” package was broadcasted by YLE - Finland, ZDF - Germany, NPS - Netherlands, S4C - UK. As immigration policies are being discussed all over Europe, this package of high quality films by newcomers makes it clear that immigrants are not the exception but the rule, and that they are not a threat but a wealth for Europe.

For the second nTrade stage, RTV Slovenia and ERT Greece were broadcasting together with the other nTrade members the package “New Europe”. Films from Eastern European countries, especially those who became members of the EU. Films from these countries are based on a long and successful tradition in filmmaking, but it is still very difficult for young filmmakers to obtain production support. Therefore films from the region are hardly to be seen on television outside their countries of production.

The third package about “Tolerance” was somehow a continuation from the above. We realised that tolerance is necessary for foreign religions, for strangers in the country, but also for new neighbours in the European Union. This nTrade theme package was on screen in fall 2004 in 4 European countries.

2005 we had a package of European “Growing Up” films on screen in Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Estonia and Slovenia.

The new theme for 2006 will be “Security” (working title). The films have to be contemporary, European and not older than from 2001. The further themes for the next years will be “Work” and “family models”. You are welcome to suggest films. If you are interested in broadcasting the package, please do not hesitate to contact us.
